and it’s a wrap!

and it’s a wrap, Coke studio season 12 is over and this year we fell in love with coke studio all over again. Last season, coke studio wasn’t at its usual best but this year, it started off with the bang and we were all spellbound with Atif Aslam’s rendition of ‘wohi Khuda hai’.

All through the season we experienced the vintage Rohail Haytt, his touch of class, simplicity and more importantly the diversity of music, no wonder we call it the sound of the nation.

Coke Studio 12 had high expectation because after an average last season, many pundits started righting it off and rightly so. CS had lost its mojo, purpose and basic concept of diversity. During the last few years, we have seen other music platforms coming up and doing well and it seemed as if CS management weren’t very sure of its own asset and in desperation, they misfired a lot of valuable ammunition and started losing ground. But thank GOD, sanity prevailed and its back on track.

What happens next is yet to seen, but CS needs to evolve. With season 12, Rohail has somewhat restored its image but moving forward they need to ask some very important questions; where do they go from here? Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Abrar Ul haq, Aima Baig, Sahir Ali Bagga, QB are all very good but you can’t have them in every season.

How to deal with viewer fatigue and retain their interest at the same time should be the key concern for the producers or have we already seen the best of CS. As they say all good things must come to an end – is it time or are we in for a bigger surprise next year, we can’t wait to watch, hear and enjoy it all over again!
